About the Artwork
Enduring Legacy is a comment about what is ‘seen’ of an artist after they are gone. We live on in our enduring work; our work is our marker that we have been. Much like a gravestone, our work gives notes and clues as to who we have been, our values, our contribution. We know van Gogh by his images, Hamada by his bowls. Tides will rise until we stop spinning, until the cheesy moon stops glowing, until the sun burns cold. I am an artist of joy, sadness, moments of clarity, pain, resolution, inevitability. I will until I don’t. I leave behind what I’ve made. My gift. In a few centuries, a millennium or two, dig it up, restore, interpret, interrogate. I am a member of a long cohort of artists who once were and are now not, yet live on in their work. Like them, I will leave my legacy. I was here. See me.
About the Artist
Daniel Skeffington is an artist based in Lake McQuarie, NSW. He received an Advanced Diploma Ceramics Hornsby TAFE NSW in 2010, and has participated in multiple group and solo exhibitions in Sydney, Newcastle, Canberra, and Gosford. He has also held exhibitions internationally in Italy, and completed residencies in France (2016) and Canberra (2021).
Daniel gives masterclasses and is currently writing a book titled Unlocking Creativity in Ceramics. He is scheduled to hold an exhibition titled Art Discoveries in Saddlers Creek Winery, Hunter Valley, in September 2026, and is a current finalist in the Wollombi Sculpture Festival.
