About the Artwork
Migrating II explores the movement of spotted eagle rays through ocean currents. Drawing on my lino cut printmaking practice, I applied layered colours to create depth before carving back the surface using sgraffito. The flowing carved lines suggest the invisible currents that guide migration. Spotted eagle rays are found throughout tropical oceans, including the waters of Far North Queensland. This work reflects the interconnected relationship between marine life and the dynamic ecosystems that shape their journeys.
About the Artist
Aisha Kennett is a ceramic and printmaking artist based in Gimuy/Cairns. Inspired by the unique ecosystems of Far North Queensland, her practice explores the interconnected relationships between species and their environments through ceramic vessels and sculpture. She combines traditional ceramic techniques with a printmaker’s approach to surface and composition.
Aisha completed her Diploma of Visual Arts in 2025. Her work has been exhibited in regional and national exhibitions across Australia and has been selected as a finalist in the Omnia Art Prize (2026), Siliceous Award for Ceramic Excellence (2025), and Feel Good Art Prize (2025). She won the Ceramics category at the 9th Hinchinbrook Birdlife Art Awards (2024) and has received First Place awards at the Cairns Show for three consecutive years (2024–2026).
