Townsville Mayor Nick Dametto is hosting a series of thank you BBQs across the city to recognise the efforts of Council’s outdoor workforce.

The BBQs are being held to acknowledge the day‑to‑day work carried out by crews who help keep Townsville running, including mowing, parks and gardens, resource recovery, civil construction and maintenance and other essential services delivered across the city.

Mayor Dametto said the BBQ breakfasts were an opportunity to meet and personally thank staff for their ongoing commitment, particularly following the significant rain event and for their involvement in the ongoing Back-to-Basics Blitz.

“Our outdoor workforce is on the front line of what we deliver as a Council, and I think it’s important that these men and women are acknowledged for the work they do,” Cr Dametto said.

“These workers play a vital role in maintaining our city, often working behind the scenes in all conditions.

“From maintaining parks and open spaces to building and repairing roads in 30-plus degree heat, these teams take real pride in their work and in helping to restore pride and prosperity in Townsville.

“At the moment we have a big focus on getting our 3600 hectares of grass under control as it literally grows back behind our mowing crews thanks to a decent wet season, but the Back-to-Basics Blitz is showing what can be achieved when we focus on the fundamentals and work together to get our city back on track.

“I’m really looking forward to meeting our teams and seeing the important work they do to grow Townsville, first-hand.”

Council’s outdoor workforce continues to deliver essential services that support liveability, safety and economic activity across the city.
