A memorial bench overlooking the pond at Anderson Gardens now stands as a lasting tribute to the late Jenny Sebba, recognising her extraordinary contribution to the Townsville community and her lifelong passion for the natural environment.

A small ceremony was held last week to officially mark the completion of the memorial, with Ms Sebba’s friends, representatives from North Queensland Wildlife Care, Division 9 Councillor Liam Mooney and Townsville City Council staff gathering to honour her legacy in a place she cherished.

Cr Mooney said the memorial provided a fitting and peaceful space for the community to remember a remarkable local volunteer.

“Jenny gave so much of her time, energy and heart to Townsville, and it's only fitting we now have a place that reflects the legacy she leaves behind,” Cr Mooney said.

“Set in a beautiful spot overlooking the pond at Anderson Gardens, this memorial honours someone who dedicated countless hours to caring for people, wildlife and the environment.

“Whether you knew Jenny personally or not, this bench offers a place to pause, reflect and appreciate the enormous contribution one person can make to their community.”

A long-time Mysterton resident, Ms Sebba was widely respected for her volunteer work across a broad range of community, environmental, educational and cultural organisations.

North Queensland Wildlife Care President Dominique Thiriet said the completion of the memorial was a meaningful way to recognise Jenny’s enduring impact.

“Jenny was NQ Wildlife Care’s Treasurer for many years and was dedicated to our organisation, our members and the animals we care for,” Ms Thiriet said.

“She inspired so many people through her quiet determination, generosity and commitment to helping others.

“Anderson Gardens was one of Jenny’s favourite places, so having this memorial here feels incredibly fitting.

“We're grateful to Townsville City Council for helping ensure her contribution to our community will be remembered for generations to come.”

The memorial was endorsed by Townsville City Council following a proposal from North Queensland Wildlife Care and was delivered in accordance with Council’s Memorials and Commemorative Items Policy.

Support for the memorial was received from a range of organisations across Townsville, reflecting the significant impact Ms Sebba made through decades of community service, environmental stewardship and volunteer leadership.

The memorial bench, fitted with a commemorative plaque, can now be enjoyed in her memory at Anderson Gardens.
