About the Artwork
It had been 18 months since the Cyclone Jasper floodwaters took my mum’s home of 40 years. Finally, we were able to move her into a new unit, and, to our delight, Olive-backed Sunbirds were there to greet us. It was a little bit of familiar in an unfamiliar place.
About the Artist
Naomi Hatt has a long-standing interest in natural history and the illustration of plants and animals as a way of documenting place. Her arts practice centres around drawing, printmaking, and photography. The garden and bushland surrounding her studio serve as a point of reference to record observations of flora and fauna.
