About the Artwork

In 2013, a ghost was discovered on Maiawali Country in remote western Queensland. Thought extinct for a century, the Night Parrot re-emerged. Despite their disappearing habitat—and being perfect prey for feral cats and other predators, given their grounddwelling nature—the ‘Thylacine of the air’ remains determined to endure.

About the Artist

Jodie Handley is a Queensland-based artist specialising in hand-embroidery, whose work focuses on environmental issues or living with chronic illnesses, both of which have an emphasis on themes of resilience and adaptability.
