About the Artwork
An intentional piece, this drawing uses reduced scale to encourage close viewing. I have drawn Buddy’s face in sharper detail, treating his body with a soft focus effect, mimicking a shallow depth of field. When an image is surrounded by negative space, distractions are reduced, and this encourages a stronger connection between the viewer and Buddy.
About the Artist
Elissa Sampson is an Australian visual artist known for her work in drawing, particularly in graphite and charcoal. Her work has been acknowledged in Australian art prizes, being shortlisted for the National Works on Paper Prize and JADA and having won the Percival Animal Portrait Prize on three occasions.
