About the Artwork
This portrait is of Dr Jakob Hayes working in his Wulguru Vet Clinic, Townsville. Through discussions, he explained to me that his whole approach to life was inspired from something his father told him: “Do something in life where you can make a difference in the community.” I saw examples of this quote repeatedly through his caring, gentle attitude with his customers and the distressed animals he treats.
About the Artist
Townsville-based artist Dr Barbara Cheshire has many qualifications in art and education, including a PhD from James Cook University. As well as acting as a mentor in teaching portraiture and serving on several arts committees, Barbara has been a finalist in many art awards (including the Percival Portrait Painting Prize on several occasions), and has participated in exhibitions throughout Townsville and Brisbane.
