About the Artwork
Every year, I paint a self-portrait based on a picture taken around my birthday. It’s fascinating seeing how my self-perception and how I want to represent myself changes over time, even subconsciously— thinking “Oh, I shouldn’t make myself too this or too that” as I’m painting. Painting yourself is always the hardest thing to do objectively, because you have the longest history with the most assumptions about yourself.
