Ron McBurnie – Animal Prize Judge

Ron McBurnie

Ron McBurnie is an artist and educator whose creative practice spans over 40 years and includes painting, drawing, printmaking, and artists’ books. His work relates strongly to his local North Queensland environment, but residencies in other places have always been crucial to the artist’s development. Residencies have been held at Artspace Mackay (2020/21); Tweed Regional Gallery, NSW (2020); Alayrac, France (four since 2009); Carleton College, Minnesota (2006); Frans Masereel Centrum, Belgium (2004, 2011); Australian National University, Canberra (six since 2001); the National Art School, Sydney (2010, 2011); and the Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris (1991/92).

Ron has held over 30 solo and touring exhibitions and participated in over 100 group exhibitions. He has received numerous awards and grants, including the Fremantle Print Prize, and an Australia Council overseas studio grant at the Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris.

Ron’s work is represented in many collections, including the National Gallery of Australia, National Library of Australia, and Parliament House, most Australian state galleries, many regional galleries, and private collections.
