About the Artwork
In 2025, I photographed my brother, the novelist Chris Womersley, during the auction of our late mother’s house. Judy Womersley was also a life-long writer. She penned countless newspaper articles, poems, fiction, and non-fiction works, many in the very room from which we followed the auction underway outside. The auction promised us a degree of financial security we’d never experienced as independent adults—a privilege, as mum would have rightly noted, not afforded to every Australian. The auction also heralded the farewell to a home around which our little family had orbited for 30 years, itself the wellspring for endless stories that we now carry forward without our mother.
