About the Artwork
Although I have complete faith in my dentist, Sarah Bosnic, there always remains an element of discomfort when I get my regular checkup. I partly compensate for this by photographing the scene in front of me in my mind. After one recent checkup, I asked her if I could also capture that image with my camera.
About the Artist
Glen O’Malley has lived in North Queensland for over 35 years. In 1978 he photographed the majority of FOUR AND A HALF MONTHS IN THE NORTH there. This was first shown at the Institute of Modern Art, then toured interstate. For the bicentenary of Australia, he photographed part of Journeys North in Townsville.
He was one of nine artists in the 1981 inaugural exhibition at Perc Tucker Gallery, and has since frequently exhibited there and at Pinnacles.
He has regularly exhibited nationally and internationally. O’Malley has had over 40 solo exhibitions in Australia. He has shown in over 200 group exhibitions. In 2019/20 Perc Tucker Gallery showed a retrospective exhibition of his career, What Is a Dream?
His current work has a surreal edge, but is built on a strong basis of documentary photography. Landscape and environment are as important as people in his work.
