About the Artwork

This work is the sequel to a 2022 photograph of the artist’s partner and muse. It captures a quiet moment before midnight on New Year’s Eve, emphasising solitude and the often-anticlimactic nature of celebratory events. The surrounding darkness isolates the glow of the phone screen onto the sitter, while an external light source illuminates the halfempty wine bottle. The image privileges stillness and intimacy, lingering in the pause between expectation and experience.
