About the Artwork
A late afternoon moment of outdoor rejuvenation is captured in the filtered natural sunlight of late autumn. The subject had been physically labouring all day on the property. Both sunlight and water intermingle in creating the perfect metaphysical ‘wash’ to celebrate that magical moment when the day’s work is done. The streaming of water echoes the hair and beard in both colour and form, coursing down the body. The gaze is indistinct and inward, obfuscated by the flow encapsulating the body, like a protective cocoon isolating the subject. The subject said “More cleansing than a beer, more refreshing than a new idea.”
About the Artist
Anne Levitch is a Sydney-based multidisciplinary artist, whose practice predominantly centres on 3D works with aggregated installations, providing an opportunity for photography within the frame of created environments. She engages with the philosophical and psychological influences of embedded cultural memory, societal attitudes, and their echoing traces, actively exploring the unseen and making it more visible.
Anne has received significant art awards in New South Wales, Queensland, Western Australia, and Victoria (e.g., Sculpture by the Sea, Deakin University Contemporary Small Sculpture Award, Sculpture at ScenicWorld, Hidden at Rookwood, and The Percival Photographic Portrait Prize), and has held group and solo exhibitions. Her most recent solo exhibition by invitation was at Grace Cossington Smith Gallery in Sydney 2025, titled Deconstruction of Vanity. Anne holds a Master of Art from UNSW and a Bachelor of Art (Industrial Design) from Sydney College of the Arts. Her work is held in significant private collections.
