About the Artwork
Clay offers me a way to realise architectural forms that I am often drawn to. It also acts as a drawing support; much like paper, clay is where I can apply marks of varying thickness and play with tonal values, working with a minimal palette. Ongoing motifs in my practice include landscape and domestic environments, including buildings, roof lines, shadows, fences, and the sky. I enjoy quiet spaces and leaving out the noise.
About the Artist
Based in Tasmania, NSW-born Neridah Stockley trained at the National Art School in Sydney, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2001. Neridah is a multidisciplinary artist who draws, paints, and makes ceramics.
Neridah has held 28 solo exhibitions and has been shortlisted for many art prizes, including the Gurguis New Art Prize, The Glover Prize, Adelaide Perry Drawing Prize, and the Alice Prize. Her work is held in numerous collections, including Macquarie Group, Artbank, Parliament House Canberra, Newcastle Art Gallery, and Charles Darwin University. In 2020, the Newcastle University Gallery curated a survey exhibition Neridah Stockley: A Secular View, which toured nationally.
Having spent 20 years living in the Northern Territory, Neridah co-curated Clay on Country, an Artback NT national touring survey exhibition of ceramics practice featuring over 35 artists and collectives from the Central Desert. It opened at the 16th Australian Ceramics Triennale, Apmere Mparntwe, held in Alice Springs in 2022.
