About the Artwork
Little Garden is inspired by the flowers and bees that fill pots on the deck of my Sunshine Coast home. Daisies, dianthus, echinacea, and ivy may seem ordinary, but together they create a small, living ecosystem. Since childhood, I have been drawn to delicate flowers. I like to think nature made flowers beautiful and appealing to humans so we would continue growing them, creating spaces that support pollinators and benefit our wider environment.
Working in porcelain, I have hand-sculpted each flower and bee while steadily building the vessel’s surface. This slow process reminds me of nature’s fragility and the importance of protecting it. I hope this piece celebrates the idea that even the smallest gardens can make a positive contribution to our world.
About the Artist
Sarah Therese is a ceramic artist based on the Sunshine Coast, working primarily in porcelain. Inspired by the beauty and fragility of the natural world, she creates wheel-thrown vessels embellished with hand-sculpted botanical forms and intricate surface decoration.
Sarah has been a finalist in the Siliceous Ceramics Award (2021) and the North Queensland Ceramic Awards (2022), and she undertook a three-week ceramic residency in South Korea in 2024. Her work has also been exhibited at Quixotica Art Space, Martin Hanson Memorial Art Awards, and Noosa Open Studios.
Alongside her studio practice, Sarah has held significant arts leadership and management roles, drawing on her many years of experience to support artists, galleries, and creative organisations. Her work celebrates the quiet beauty of nature while encouraging a deeper appreciation of the ecosystems that sustain us.
