New Year’s Eve park-and-ride curb parking woes

Mayor Nick Dametto said with large crowds expected along The Strand for the city’s major beachfront celebrations, Council was providing free buses every 15 minutes between the Dean Street carpark and Strand Park from 4pm to 12:40am, helping residents travel safely, avoid congestion and parking hassles, and enjoy the night with ease.

“We know just how popular our New Years Eve celebrations are, particularly down on The Strand, which is why Council is encouraging people to take advantage of the park-and-ride option this year,” Cr Dametto said.

“Sounds on the Sand at The Strand is set to attract tens of thousands of locals and visitors, with live entertainment – headlined by the Potbellieez, food vendors, family‑friendly activities and multiple fireworks displays.

“Council’s free shuttle service has been scheduled to keep people moving throughout the evening and support responsible, hassle‑free celebrations.”

Deputy Mayor Suzy Batkovic is encouraging families and groups to incorporate the free shuttle into their plans.

“Start planning your night now, whether it be at Riverway for a free movie on the big screen and fireworks, Nelly Bay for the midnight display, or parking up at Dean Street carpark and hitching a ride on the bus to the Strand for a hassle-free night out,” Cr Batkovic said.

“With busses running every fifteen minutes you can come and go as you please, and better yet avoid playing ‘spot the carpark’ with the kids.

“Council is proud to put a jam-packed night together for New Year’s Eve and we’d love for our community to join in the festivities and welcome in 2026 with a bang.”
