Roads resealed as Council cracks on with basics

More than four kilometres of local Townsville roads will be renewed in the lead up to the end of financial year.

More than four kilometres of local Townsville roads will be renewed in the lead up to the end of financial year with Mayor Nick Dametto saying the critical program was all about Council delivering on the basic services of the largest local government in northern Australia.

“As a Council, we’re committed to providing the core services our community deserves, and a key focus of mine as Mayor has been delivering those basics and doing them well,” Cr Dametto said.

“From roads and mowing to rubbish collection our crews are making sure these jobs are getting done and done well.

“As part of our back to basics program our road crew is renewing aging road infrastructure across city streets, including a 200-metre section of Gracedale Street in Mount Louisa this week.

“It’s the first resurfacing Gracedale Street has had since the early 90s and the works include ripping up the old, tired road and paving the way for a new asphalt seal and line marking.

“To minimise the impact to residents – this section of Gracedale Street will be removed and resealed within a few days.”

Councillor Dametto said the crew was working its way across Townsville suburbs each week, attacking streets that are worse for wear.

“That means our streets will look and feel like new thanks to the hard work of Council crews.”

Council requests community members affected by roadworks to follow the instructions of Council crews and traffic controllers, which may include directions to relocate vehicles.
