Townsville families are in for a magical evening outdoors as Riverway Stadium transforms once again into an open‑air cinema this Friday, complete with a shimmering fireworks display to top off the night.
This free, family-friendly event, held on the third Friday of every month, is back with a screening of Disney’s Encanto.
Encanto is the vibrant and heart‑warming tale of the extraordinary Madrigal family, who live in a magical house within the colourful Colombian village from which the film takes its name.
The magic of this enchanted place has blessed every child in the family, with the exception of Mirabel.
When the young girl discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is in danger, Mirabel decides that she, the only ordinary Madrigal, might just be her exceptional family's last hope.
The animated musical has become a global favourite for its rich storytelling, stunning visuals and memorable songs.
Following the movie, a vibrant fireworks display will light up the sky, using the remaining fireworks from Council’s New Year’s Eve celebrations, which were unfortunately cancelled due to heavy rain.
With food trucks, plenty of space for the kids to run around and a fireworks display to finish the evening, it’s a great way to unwind and enjoy the night.
Townsville Deputy Mayor and divisional councillor Suzy Batkovic said Riverway Movie Nights were a popular choice for families looking to enjoy a relaxed evening together.
“It’s always great to see the community out enjoying our open-air movie nights,” Cr Batkovic said.
“With food trucks, plenty of space for the kids to run around and a fireworks display to finish the evening, it’s a great way to unwind and enjoy the night.
“Pack a picnic rug, bring your friends or family, and come along for a fun night at Riverway.”
Encanto will screen from 7pm to 9pm this Friday 20 March at Riverway Stadium.
Attendance is free, and seating will be inside Riverway Stadium.
