Townsville’s little bunnies are invited to hop, hop, hop alongside their loved ones all the way Wulguru Park, joining in on Monday as Townsville’s Citylibraries hosts a special Easter-themed Messy Play in the Park.
20 March 2026

The free, egg‑citing community event, run from 9-11am, will offer a basket‑full of sensory, creative and hands‑on Easter activities designed for children aged five and under.
Parents looking to keep their bunnies busy won’t be disappointed, with Citylibraries organisers promising to once again deliver the full range of messy, crafty and imaginative play experiences the sessions have come to be known for.
Division 10 Councillor Brady Ellis who encouraged families to hop on down and enjoy a morning out.
Cr Ellis said the activities delivered at sessions were more than just a bit of seasonal fun and were carefully designed to support early childhood development.
“We know the research says messy play is an important tool for little ones to help them increase their confidence and develop their motor skills,” he said.
“Messy play encourages finger dexterity, hand and shoulder strength, and builds on skills necessary for handwriting and it also helps with body balance and spatial awareness.
“These are all essential skills for babies and toddlers to be working on as early as possible.
The monthly Citylibraries sessions are incredibly popular and a brilliant community service – the team works hard to keep them engaging, varied and accessible
“This month’s Easter‑themed session is all about having fun, exploring creativity, and embracing this special time of the year.”
Families are encouraged to bring a picnic blanket, hat, sunscreen, water bottle and a snack.
A coffee van will be on site selling barista‑made drinks for grown‑ups who need a little egg‑stra energy, and ice-cream will be available to keep little bunny munchies at bay.
In the event of wet weather, Messy Play will go ahead in the Wulguru Community Centre next to the park.
