Relief on the way as loo build begins at Riverside Green

Townsville Deputy Mayor and divisional councillor Suzy Batkovic said the much-needed amenity block has been fast-tracked thanks to State funding secured by the Member for Mundingburra.

“Riverside Green has become a popular family space, and a toilet facility was an important addition needed at the park,” Cr Batkovic said.

Member for Mundingburra Janelle Poole APM MP said she was pleased to see construction starting at Riverside Green.

“Our parks and playgrounds across Mundingburra and all of Townsville are well‑loved, and this project will make Riverside Green and Aplins Weir Rotary Park even better and will enable families to stay and play for longer,” Ms Poole said.

“I’m committed to listening to the community and working with Council to deliver practical, accessible facilities and am looking forward to both toilets being completed and open for community use in the coming months, just like we said we’d do.”

As part of this project, Council will construct a fit-for-purpose single accessible toilet block and associated power, sewer, and water connections and install a new pathway connecting the new facility, minor landscaping, and site remediation works.

Council will also install on-site CCTV equipment for outdoor area monitoring, and the toilet will be remote lockable and closed overnight to prevent anti-social behaviour.

The Riverside Green toilet block has been funded, alongside another toilet block to be installed at Aplins Weir Rotary Park, through $750,000 provided to Council in the most recent Queensland State Budget.

Local contractor Jackson Semler will deliver the works across both project sites, supporting around 30 local jobs.
