Major Murray Street upgrade underway in North Ward

Mayor Nick Dametto
This is Works For Queensland funding at work for Townsville residents. This whole street is going to have about $3.3 million spent on it, and 330m of road will be redeveloped here. Channel kerbing right through to services, sewerage underground will be improved as well as stormwater and drainage.
Councillor Ann-Maree Greaney
There's a lot of older infrastructure in Division 3, so it's great to see that we can replace that. You know, it's that old adage, you know, measure twice, cut once so doing a lot of underground work, which is, as you say, it's probably not the sexy sort of stuff that people want to see but rest assured, it does provide the foundations for some great infrastructure going ahead.
Member for Townsville Adam Baillie MP
The Works For Queensland program is one of the ways that the State Government can partner with local governments to deliver
real improvements to the community. And what you see here behind us in this project is about ensuring we see those infrastructure upgrades that are required.
Mayor Nick Dametto
This is part of our back to basics strategy, making sure the infrastructure around the city is fit for purpose. We haven't had roadworks here or major infrastructure upgrades on Murray Street for over 40 years, so to have this being done right now out of that Works for Queensland funding means that we're getting the job done here in Townsville.
