My name's Amy.
I'm a scientist at Townsville Laboratory Services.
In my role at Council, I test water to make sure it's safe for human consumption and also that it complies with environmental regulations.
I previously worked in water laboratories before and when the opportunity came up to work as a scientist at the Townsville Laboratory Services I jumped at the opportunity because I thought it would be really interesting working in a Council environment and it's great to be able to work with state-of-the-art equipment without having to move to a capital city.
My typical day is running instruments testing samples and creating the relevant reports that go out to our clients.
We test for a variety of different analytes in water.
Some of these include blue-green algae, micro counts, trace metals and also certain nutrients that can be in water.
I like working for Council because it's fun.
It's really interesting, every day there's always something new and something different.
It doesn't really feel like work because I'm working with such a great bunch of people.
