Seeds to Success is a pilot program that the Townsville City Council is running across six schools in Townsville right now, teaching kids the importance of horticulture.

Some of the programs that are running at the moment show children how to actually grow food like parsley and cherry tomatoes, and the other schools are running a program where they're growing native Australian plants.

It's always important, I think, to teach children where their food actually comes from, and giving them a chance to actually grow and cultivate their own food to have a real appreciation for not only where their food comes from, but what farmers do to make sure that food's on everyone's plate every night.

So this initiative is all about sustainability and getting primary school kids engaged in kitchen gardens and native gardens as well. So it helps to build really important skills like teamwork and problem solving.

I think we're very, very lucky out of these six schools, to be very lucky to get the opportunity to do this.

They've been awarded the kitchen garden program and a Stephanie Alexander membership for two years, and they get a whole range of different resources, linked to the Australian curriculum.

It's all about food growing, native gardens, native kitchen gardens, so they'll be able to use those resources in the school.
