Strand Ephemera emerged in 2001 through the initiative of Townsville City Council. Its purpose was to provide a platform for regional artists to showcase their exceptional talent.

Today, Stand Ephemera stands proudly as the North’s leading temporary public art festival. Now in its 14th iteration, this beloved and highly anticipated biennial event attracts local, national, and international artists and audiences to Townsville-Gurambilbarra’s iconic location, The Strand.

Strand Ephemera 2027 invites artists to inspire imagination through our stories. Using art to spark imagination and wonder, this iteration’s theme invites artists to celebrate Queensland’s unique stories and transform them into bold, contemporary expressions. Creating powerful moments of connection with a lasting sense of inspiration long after the encounter.

In 2027, Strand Ephemera welcomes the return of the young artists category, open competitive category and the newly introduced Environmental Advocate Award

Strand Ephemera 2027 is not just about the artworks; it offers a multitude of engaging programs that immerse visitors in the world of art. The festival will include a diverse range of sculptures, installations and projections, and feature internationally renowned artists. In addition to these established names, emerging artists competed for recognition and awards, including:

$1,000 People's Choice Award.

Strand Ephemera is organised and coordinated by Townsville City Council, with the valuable support of a dedicated volunteer taskforce.
