About the Artwork

Bindi is the first pet I have bought in my 20s. She lives with me in a house I share with fellow students. Painted on an unmade bed, in a room with anatomy posters lining the walls, this portrait reflects the quiet constancy of companionship during a transient time, where routine, mess, and presence shape everyday life.

About the Artist

Hayley Wellins is an Australian artist whose work explores animals, domestic space, and everyday rural and suburban life. Currently studying veterinary science, her painting practice is grounded in observation, patience, and close attention to form. Working primarily in oil, she creates quiet, narrative-driven works that reflect companionship, routine, and the subtle relationships between animals, people, and place.
