Free family swim day at city’s pools to kick off summer fun

Townsville families will have the chance to cool down for free this Sunday as the city’s public pools swing open their doors.

Townsville City Council Free Family Swim Day is the perfect way to kick off the summer school holidays with free admission to the Tobruk, Kokoda and Long Tan Memorial Pools and the Northern Beaches Leisure Centre from 9am to 3pm on December 13.

Sport, Recreation and Parks Committee chair Cr Pat Ernst said it was not only a chance to cool down this summer.

"We urge residents to also use this opportunity to find out about the programs and facilities offered at our pools," Cr Ernst said.

"There’s everything from kids swimming lessons, to aqua aerobics to barbecue and function facilities, so this is a chance to see what each pool offers, and possibly to sign up for some water-based activities.

"The public swimming pools are conveniently located throughout the city, so everyone has easy access to these great community assets."
