Our seniors make a significant contribution to our community every day as workers, carers, volunteers, mentors, community leaders, neighbours, and friends in our community.
We have a range of information and links on this page that will assist our senior residents in the Townsville community.
Seniors Guide to Council
The Seniors Guide to Council 2016 is a comprehensive list of the range of council services that are available for Townsville seniors.
The purpose of this guide is to provide Townsville seniors with brief information on the diverse range of council services and how these services can be accessed by seniors and their families in our community.
It is important that all members of our community have information to access council services and this guide is one strategy that will assist our senior community members to access community and council information.
The Seniors Guide to Council is available from our Customer Service Centres. Alternatively, you can download a copy below.
Community Development Strategy 2014-2017
We have prepared the Community Development Strategy 2014-2017 to further develop relationships with the Townsville community. This document, which has replaced the existing ten strategic action plans, aims to guide decision making for Community Development over the next three years.
Inclusive Community Advisory Committee (ICAC)
The purpose of the Inclusive Community Advisory Committee (ICAC) is to be a peak body of community representatives to provide advice to Council on current and emerging social and community planning needs and opportunities, policy matters and to promote community leadership through a ‘collective impact’ approach.
For more information visit the ICAC website.
Pensioner Transport Subsidy Scheme
The Pensioner Transport Subsidy Scheme (PTSS) encourages people who receive a pension to participate in community activities and to assist their access and mobility through the provision of a subsidy towards the costs of public transport.
Thank you to everyone who took part in the PTSS survey. The winners of the survey competition for a double pass to the cinema are R.Hughes and B. Burns.
The subsidy is provided to residents of the Townsville local government area who receive a Commonwealth pension (either through Centrelink or Veterans Affairs).
The recipients of the PTSS Card are eligible for a 30% discount on local bus fares. This is in addition to their 50% pensioner discount, bringing the total discount to 80%. Both the Pensioner Transport Subsidy Scheme Card and the Pension Card must be shown to the driver for the discount to be given.
In addition to receiving the same discount on Magnetic Island bus travel, all eligible recipients who permanently reside on Magnetic Island are also eligible to receive 20 ferry vouchers per annum. Each ferry voucher entitles pensioners to a $3.00 discount. When purchasing ferry tickets both the voucher and Pension Card must be presented. Voucher holders may use more than one voucher per ticket purchase.
Eligible residents can apply for Pensioner Transport Subsidy Scheme Cards and Ferry Vouchers from Customer Service Centres located at Walker St and Thuringowa Drive.
