Our Recruitment Process

Applying for a position

Townsville City Council uses eRecruitment, a self-service portal. eRecruitment enables you to apply for jobs with us online, at anytime, anywhere, using a range of digital and mobile devices.

By creating your own Jobseeker profile on our eRecruitment portal, you can:

  • Subscribe to email alerts for vacancies you are interested in;
  • Login and view the status of jobs you have applied for;
  • Track the progress of your application through the recruitment process;
  • Receive updates from us as your application reaches various stages;
  • Manage your own job application resume and attachments;

To create a Jobseeker profile, visit our Current Vacancies page and ‘Register’ for an account on our Vacancy Job Board.

What you should include in your application

  • A detailed Cover Letter (1-2 pages) addressed to the Recruitment Team, outlining how your skills, qualifications and experience meet the Key Requirements of the position; and
  • Your current resume including the name and telephone number of two work referees (people who have directly supervised you or who have knowledge of your work performance over the past 5 years); and
  • Evidence of your right to work in Australia if born outside of Australia; and
  • A copy of the required qualifications/licenses/tickets as per the Key Requirements of the Position Information document.

Selection process

Council is committed to recruiting the best possible candidates. Accordingly, the selection process is based on merit principles and equal employment opportunity. Your application will be assessed against the requirements of the position, based on your qualifications, and your relevant experience as outlined in your application documents.

The selection process may include:

  • Pre-screening interview via phone or face to face
  • Formal panel interview
  • Practical assessments
  • Reference Checks
  • VEVO Immigration Check
  • Fit for work medical assessment
  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol screening (mandatory)
  • Working with Children Check
  • National Police Clearance
  • Probation period (3 or 6 months)
