Welcoming Cities

Townsville prides itself on being welcoming to all and is committed to building an inclusive community where all residents have a sense of belonging regardless of ethnicity, cultural background or religion. This commitment has helped position Townsville City Council as an active and recognised member of the Welcoming Cities network.

Council’s efforts have earnt the city accreditation as an Established Welcoming City. Established accreditation showcases the commitment and celebrates success in fostering diversity and inclusion and increases Townsville’s prominence in the Welcoming Cities network.

The Welcoming Cities network is a network of councils and other organisations which share knowledge, create partnerships and celebrate success in the interest of increasing social cohesion. Welcoming Cities currently has 109 city-members representing 60% of the Australian population.

Council will continue working towards achieving the Welcoming Cities Standard and will champion the principles of welcoming and inclusion in our local community.
