Regional Recycled Art Competition

Townsville, the Burdekin and Hinchinbrook Councils invite students, residents and community groups across the region to take part in the Regional Recycled Art Competition.

This initiative encourages people of all ages to explore recycling and environmental stewardship through creative artmaking.

Winning artworks will be displayed at the region's Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in Townsville.

Competition Details

Theme

The theme for the competition is: Sky, Earth and Sea.

Entrants are encouraged to consider the natural environment and how recycling protects our land, waterways and atmosphere. Artworks must be made using recycled or repurposed materials.

Examples include:

  • Animals that fly, live on land or swim in the sea
  • Plants, trees, habitats or natural landscapes
  • Reef environments, marine life or underwater ecosystems

Key Dates

The key dates are:

  • Launch: Wednesday 15 April 2026
  • Entries close: Monday 6 July 2026 at 4pm

Winners will be selected from each Council area, to form a regional exhibition at the MRF. The winning artworks will be unveiled at a special Materials Recycling Facility Open Day later this year!

Who Can Enter?

Open to schools, individuals, community groups, organisations and art collectives across Townsville, the Burdekin and Hinchinbrook. Both individual and group entries are welcome.
