Shooting Hoops session a chance to get active for free

Date published: 18 April 2016

Players from the Townsville Fire will join residents for a fun Shooting Hoops session at Strand Park on Wednesday as part of council’s Get Active 30 Ways in 30 Days calendar for the month of April.

Community Health and Environment Committee chair Cr Ann-Maree Greaney said the session was an opportunity to meet some of the players while showcasing one of council’s many free sporting facilities.

“We have so many parks, open spaces and facilities that residents can use free of charge and during the month of April we are encouraging people to go out and experience them, or to rediscover what’s in their own neighbourhoods,” Cr Greaney said.

“The basketball court at Strand Park has been a much-loved community asset and a great way for residents to have fun and get fit for free.”

Throughout April Townsville City Council is offering a range of free activities every day, from fitness sessions conducted by local clubs and organisations through to events making use of our parks and open spaces.

There are still plenty of events left in April including tai chi, yoga, cardio tennis and cycling among many others. Visit Townsville.qld.gov.au and search for Get Active.

Shooting Hoops will be held on Wednesday, April 20 from 5pm-6.30pm. Everyone is welcome.
