Expo at Jezzine Barracks a treat for city's pampered pets

Date published: 16 June 2016

Jezzine Barracks will come alive with creatures great and small this Sunday for the annual Pet Expo.

More than 90 pet-related exhibitors will be there, including animal behaviourists, groomers, vets, photographers and many more.

There will be competitions and giveaways all day plus the return of the popular Dachshund Dash, a Fight for Flight display and the Defence Force mascot will meet and greet residents.

Crowds can also see the explosive detector dogs in action and the Dulux dog and Cowboys mascot Bluey will make special guest appearances.

Residents will also have the opportunity to speak to registered dog breeders and trainers.

Community Health and Environment Committee chair Cr Ann-Maree Greaney said the event was always a big hit with animal lovers.

“People have the opportunity to bring their animals and talk to experts about all things related to pets,” Cr Greaney said.

“Whether you want to know more about their health, how to train your pet, or the best grooming techniques, the Pet Expo is your one-stop-shop for information.

“Townsville has more than 37,000 registered dogs and 6000 cats, so as always we’re expecting a great turn out of residents keen to learn more about their animals.”

Visitors will have an opportunity to renew their dog registrations with council at the event.

The Pet Expo will be on at Jezzine Barracks on Sunday, June 19 from 9am to 3pm.
