Variety performance to celebrate city's birthday

Date published: 4 March 2016

Townsville’s Civic Theatre will light up with all the sparkle and red carpet glamour of Hollywood for an evening of singing, dancing and music that celebrates the city’s 150th birthday.

The gala black tie T150 Variety Performance on Saturday, April 2 will feature special guests including ARIA award-winner David Campbell, star of Dirty Dancing the Musical and former Townsville performer Kurt Phelan, The Voice Australia’s Luke Kennedy, the 1RAR Band and Barrier Reef Orchestra, dancers from Dancenorth as well as musical, dance and comedy guests from across the region.

Council’s Community and Culture Committee chair Cr Sue Blom said the evening would be an entertaining way to recognise Townsville’s performing arts over the past 150 years.

“Townsville has come from such humble beginnings to become the cultural and entertainment hub of North Queensland,” Cr Blom said.

“We have so many talented people in our region and this concert will draw together about 60 locals who will take to the stage to entertain you in a variety of forms.

“I invite residents and visitors to come along for a memorable way to celebrate our city and its past.”
