Townsville artists are bringing art to the people as part of the Percivals art exhibition program presented by Townsville City Council’s Gallery Services.

Roving artists will stroll through the Cotters Markets in Flinders St on Sundays from 10am-12pm offering to draw portraits of visitors for free.

The artists include Percivals T150 winner Barbara Cheshire, Alison McDonald, Ashleigh Peters, Irene Rae, Lyn Scott-Cumming and Pru Terry.

Community and Cultural Development Committee chair Cr Colleen Doyle said it was great to see arts adding vibrancy to the CBD.

“Following on from the success of the roving portrait artists in 2014, we will again see some of the region’s most talented artists producing fast and free portraits for residents and visitors,” Cr Doyle said.

“We hope this will also attract more people to visit the fantastic works of art we currently have on display at the Perc Tucker Regional Gallery for the Percivals Portrait Painting Exhibition.”

Visitors to the markets should keep an eye out for the artists wearing blue and white striped shirts, bright red berets, and carrying their drawing board every Sunday until July 10.

The artists will also attend major events such as Eco Fiesta, T150 Pacific Festival Parade and the V8 Super Welcome.
