Annual water opt-in period commences

Date published: 7 August 2017

Residents will have the next three weeks during the annual water opt-in period to decide if they want to change their water-billing option.

The water opt-in period will run until August 27 and provides the one opportunity in the year when residents can change between the Standard Plan (fixed water allocation of 772kL) and the pay as you use Water Watcher Plan.

Townsville Water and Waste Committee chairman Cr Paul Jacob encouraged residents to consider their options.

“Council runs the water opt-in period every year to offer residents a choice on which plan suits them best,” Cr Jacob said.

“For residents who are looking to get more value out of their water use, this is the time you can change to a 772kL standard plan or the water watcher pay-as-you-use plan.

“Ratepayers can contact council to find out their water consumption over the past year, and each rates notice also has the water usage from the previous six months.

“If your water usage is greater than 298 kilolitres for the year you are better off with the standard plan, and anything less you are better off with water watcher plan.

“It is important to note that ratepayers only have this current period to make the change to their water plan for the next 12 months.

“Obviously if you don’t want to change, you don’t need to do anything.”

Council offers in-person, phone and online options for ratepayers to change their water-billing plan.
