The community is invited to a family fun day this Saturday, August 12 to celebrate the completion of works at the Townsville Recreational Boating Park in South Townsville.

Works on Stage 2 are now complete with an additional 113 car-with-trailer bays, wash down areas, two more four-lane ramps C & D, CCTV cameras, extra lighting, landscaping and irrigation and a 30m pontoon as well as a 50m all-ability accessible pontoon among the new features.

The Seventh Avenue access has also been upgraded from Boundary Street to the boating park with new kerb and channel, pavements, footpaths, irrigation and landscaping.

This now gives the public an additional access other than the current access via Fifth Avenue.

Stage 2 complements the two four-lane boat ramps  A & B , 220 car-with-trailer parks, playground and picnic facilities delivered under Stage 1.

The family fun day on Saturday, August 12 will feature a number of demonstrations, marine safety information, Defence amphibious vehicles, prizes, entertainment, food and drinks and much more.

There will also be 30 exhibitors such as the Townsville Coast Guard, Australian Border Force, the Water Police and All State Boat Licencing and Training.

Townsville Mayor Cr Jenny Hill said the project had been a big success and the boating and fishing community was the big winner.

“These are fantastic facilities for local fishers and their families and I invite everyone to come and celebrate the opening with us,” Cr Hill said.

“The site has been a hive of activity over the past year and the outcome is something the whole community can be proud of.”

Cr Hill said the Townsville Recreational Boating Park had been designed and developed in consultation with the community.

“We wanted to ensure the design not only met the needs of local boat owners but also provided a facility that was accessible, fun and functional for the whole community,” Cr Hill said.

The event will run from 12.30pm to 5pm with an official ceremony and speech from Mayor Jenny Hill at 2pm.

The boating park has been the result of a partnership between the Townsville City Council, the Queensland Government and the Port of Townsville with input from the local boating community.
