Rachel Cairns to perform a few of her favourite hits

Date published: 15 February 2017

Townsville City Council’s Morning Melodies will commence its 2017 season with two performances by well-known local performer Rachel Cairns.

Ms Cairns will sing some of her favourite and iconic songs in A Few of My Favourite Things, on February 21 and 22.

Ms Cairns is no stranger to the Townsville musical theatre stage, having played leading roles in many productions for the Townsville Choral Society and North Queensland Opera and Music Theatre over the past 25 years.

This has included seasons of Les Miserables, All Shook Up, Nunsense, The Sound of Music and Chess.

However, it was her role as Mama Rose in Gypsy that earned her widespread acclaim and a Townsville City Council Arts, Culture and Entertainment Award (Theatre) in 2006.

Ms Cairns was also a featured performer in the Choral Society’s Concert of the Century (2006) and she was most recently seen in the title role in TCS production of Mary Poppins in August, 2015.

Ms Cairns is currently the musical director of the Townsville Choral Society, and has also directed choirs and production choruses for NQOMT, KMEIA, Mulkadee Youth Arts Festival, Opera Queensland, and Townsville City Council events including Carols by Candlelight and ANZAC Day.

A Few of My Favourite Things with Rachel Cairns will be held on February 21 and 22 from 11am-12.30pm.

Tickets are $14 adults/seniors, $12.60 members, $12 FOTT and $12 each for groups of 10+.
