Townsville residents are urged to nominate a senior citizen who has contributed to the wellbeing of the Townsville community.

Nominations are now open for the 2017 Townsville City Council Seniors Awards and are open to people aged over 60 who have given their time on a voluntary basis for the good of the community.

The 2016 winners were Madge Sceriha and John Johnson.

Mayor Jenny Hill said seniors made invaluable contributions to our community, families and workplaces every day.

“This is a great opportunity to nominate a senior you feel has contributed to making Townsville great,” Cr Hill said.

“Each year we are pleased to recognise the city’s seniors for the countless hours they volunteer across a range of organisations in Townsville.”

Nominations can be made online, by mail or in person at Council’s Community Engagement office Level 1, Northtown.

Nominations must be received by 5pm, Friday, August 4.

Winners will be announced during the Seniors Week Luncheon at Townsville Stadium on August 24.
