Cyclists converge on Riverway for start of Get Active month

Date published: 29 March 2017

Riverway will be the end station for a new council event that is encouraging residents to get on their bikes and become more active.

On April 2, council will host the very first Ride to Riverway event, as part of the annual Get Active 30 Ways in 30 Days calendar for the month of April.

Whether you start your ride from home, jump on the bike at a closer starting point, perhaps along part of the Ross River circuit, or simply come straight to the final event location at Riverway, it’s all about participation, fun and fitness.

Participants should arrive at Raintree Grove at Riverway between 8am and 10.30am and take advantage of the Bling Your Bike Station, a Bicycle Maintenance Station and Queensland Police offering bike engraving, bike safety checks and plus much more.

Check council’s What’s On website for more details.  The first 100 people to arrive on a bicycle will receive a prize pack.

Community Health and Environment Committee chair Cr Ann-Maree Greaney said the Get Active calendar was an annual initiative by council packed with exciting activities for all ages.

“One of the highlights of the month is the Ride to Riverway event, but there are lots of other interesting fitness options like yoga, Zumba, park runs and martial arts,” Cr Greaney said.

“The calendar has suggestions for every day of April, so there’s no shortage of activities on offer.

“If you’ve been looking to begin a new physical activity or just want to get more active and enjoy our beautiful city, April is a great time to give it a go.”
