New show to light up Riverway Arts Centre stage
Date published: 6 March 2017
Visitors to the Riverway Arts Centre will be treated to a program of works that explore light sources as musical instruments.
Fluorophone, a show by Victorian company Speak Percussion, creates a kaleidoscopic sound world in which the central instruments radiate, flicker, glow and burn.
Analogue and digital fluorescent lights, the naked flame, strobe lights and custom-built LED discs are combined with percussion to create a program in which the music and lighting design are one and the same.
Fluorophone moves between noise, theatrical music and virtuosic instrumentalism, in a display of light and sound.
The performance also features specially commissioned works by a prominent team of leading composers.
Fluorophone will be performed at the Riverway Arts Centre on March 14 at 6.30pm and March 15 at 10.30am.
Tickets are $45 adults, $40 concession and $25 school students and children.
