Local firms encouraged to attend pipeline Information Session

Date published: 27 April 2018

Townsville City Council will host another Industry Information Session on the new water pipeline project on Friday, May 4.

The Information Session will bring together contractors, subcontractors and suppliers to provide details on the project and how local firms can secure work on the pipeline.

Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said the Information Session would demonstrate to local firms how to get involved in the project.

“Council awarded the tender for the supply of pipe for the 36.5km pipeline this week, but many more local companies – and workers – will be needed to ensure this crucial infrastructure is delivered,” Cr Hill said.

“The pipeline will need all sorts of workers including surveyors, civil engineers, truck drivers and labourers – just to name a few.

“There’s plenty of work available on the pipeline and we want to create as many jobs as possible for locals.

“Anyone with a small to medium-sized business should come along to the Information Session on Friday to find out how they can be a part of the project.”

Cr Hill said the pipeline was a key plank of Council’s 3-point water security solution.

“Council is committed to completing the pipeline by the end of next year,” Cr Hill said.

“The pipeline will provide long-term water security for Townsville along and allow our city’s population and economy to continue growing into the future.”

Council’s $225 million three-point water security solution includes:

  • The new 1.8-metre diameter pipeline
  • A recycled water system for community spaces and industrial use
  • The Community Water Transition Support Package

The Information Session will be held at the Mayoral Reception Room at 103 Walker St. Doors open at 8.45am for a 9am start. The event is expected to conclude at 11am.
