Date published: 27 August 2018

Weather permitting –  controlled burning for environmental restoration and to improve flood mitigation at Town Common will begin tomorrow.

Council crews will begin burning around the Mount saint John Treatment Plant to Snaggy Creek at the Town Common 8.30am and will continue into the afternoon. Smaller controlled burns may take place on Wednesday.

Residents adjacent to the Town Common Conservation Park have been notified of the burn by email and a letter drop.

Council asks residents and hill walkers to take care and follow any directions from staff during the controlled burns.

Main Roads have advised that smoke hazards on the Bruce Highway are not likely and the burn should be completed outside peak traffic times.

Residents with medical conditions affected by smoke from grass fires are encouraged to take appropriate precautions on this day should smoky conditions affect them.

The controlled burns at Town Common are conducted by Townsville City Council and carried out in conjunction with the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service.
