Free microchipping for Townsville pets

Date published: 3 August 2018

Townsville City Council is holding another free microchipping day at Lappin Dog Park in Kirwan on Saturday.

The event will be held between 8am and 11am, where registered dogs and approved cats will be microchipped for free - saving pet owners up to $90.

Community Health and Environment Committee Chair Cr Ann-Maree Greaney said Council’s free microchipping days helped keep your fur-family safe.

“Microchipping your pet and keeping the contact details up to date will give us the best chance to get them home if they do go missing,” Cr Greaney said.

“Pets that are microchipped are much more likely to be found quickly and safely than a pet that isn’t.”

Division 5 Councillor Russ Cook said free microchipping days are a great way to encourage residents to be responsible pet owners.

“Holding these events relieves some of the costs involved in pet ownership and is a convenient way for residents to get their pet microchipped,” Cr Cook said.

“We don’t require any bookings and all registered dogs and approved cats over eight weeks old are eligible.”

For pets that are not registered, Council is offering on the spot registrations for a fee. Once registered, pets are then eligible for free microchipping.
