Townsville sporting and community associations have received a festive season boost from Townsville City Council.

Council has approved Licence to Occupy applications for Northern Beaches Cricket Club, AFL Townsville Umpires Association, the Canine Obedience Club of Townsville and Townsville Outdoor Agility Dog Sports.

Acting Mayor Les Walker said the licenses allow the groups to use their resources to provide important services to the community.

“These clubs can continue to deliver activities in parks across the city under these agreements,” Cr Walker said.

“This provides stability and allows these groups to deliver activities that improve the quality of life of Townsville residents. “

Cr Walker said the five-year licenses give clubs a chance to plan for the future.

“It gives clubs an opportunity to increase their membership base and plan recreation opportunities for the community,” Cr Walker said.

“Sport and community activities help make Townsville a liveable and vibrant city and it supports the growth of a healthy city.”
