Council’s sprinkler swap on this weekend

Date published: 4 December 2018

Townsville City Council is offering residents another chance to turf out their old sprinklers for new water-efficient sprinklers for free at Fairfield Shopping Centre on Saturday.

Local Councillor Les Walker encouraged residents to swap old, inefficient sprinklers for a brand new Wobble Tee sprinkler worth almost $35.

“These sprinkler swaps have been hugely popular with the community, so I’d really encourage anyone living locally to get to Fairfield Shopping Centre early,” Cr Walker said.

“The Wobble Tee sprinklers are designed to use less water and cover double the area of conventional sprinklers – they’re great for helping residents keep their water use down and keeping lawns nice and green.

“It would be great to see residents making the change and becoming more water wise.”

Townsville Water and Waste Committee Chair Cr Russ Cook said it is still important that residents continue saving water over the holiday period.

“We all have a part to play in sticking to the daily consumption target of 135ML per day – recently we have seen a number of days where we have gone over this target,” Cr Cook said.

“Our 3-point water security solution is underway, but we all need to do our best to use our water efficiently.”

Council's 3-point water security solution includes:

  1. The new 1.8-metre diameter pipeline
  2. A recycled water reuse scheme for public open spaces and industrial use
  3. Water Smart Package
