Mayor Jenny Hill has delivered on another promise by establishing grant funding of up to $10,000 for local sport and recreation clubs across Townsville.

Eligible clubs are now able to apply for Club Infrastructure Grant funding to assist in enhancing local sporting recreation facilities, such as buying shade structures, seating and improvements to club buildings.

Cr Hill said providing this funding for local sports clubs was important to encourage more people to get healthy and active throughout the city.

“Delivering this funding commitment recognises the value of our many wonderful local sports clubs and the importance of sport across the community,” Cr Hill said.

“This funding is really about improving and enhancing the facilities and infrastructure of our many local clubs and helping them operate more efficiently.”

Cr Hill said providing funding and improving basic services to local grassroots clubs they could focus on community involvement and sports development.

“Sporting groups equipped with good facilities and infrastructure can focus their attention to promoting their activities more, reaching a larger part of our community, and becoming more socially inclusive,” Cr Hill said.

Applications for up to $10,000 are invited.

Grant applications close Sunday 3rd June 2018 at 5pm.
