Free microchipping for Townsville pets

Date published: 10 May 2018

Townsville City Council is holding another free microchipping event this weekend – saving pet owners up to $90 per animal.

The event will be held at Jabiru Park in Condon on Saturday 12 May, where owners are encouraged to bring their registered pets to get them microchipped for free.

Community Health and Environment Committee Chair Cr Ann-Maree Greaney said microchipping your dog or cat is an important part of responsible pet ownership.

“Having a pet go missing can be very stressful, so knowing that you can easily track them down gives you added peace of mind,” Cr Greaney said.

“A pet with a microchip has a much better chance of being found quickly and safely than a pet that isn’t.

“Council’s regular free microchipping days help residents save money and they promote responsible pet ownership within the community.”

For pets that are not registered, Council is offering on the spot registrations for a fee. Once registered, pets are then eligible for free microchipping.
