CityLibraries Townsville is turning 80 and to celebrate, Townsville City Council is inviting anyone over the age of 18 to come enjoy a free night of nostalgia at Retro Games Night.

Guests will be able to enjoy games like Donkey Kong, Pacman, and Pinball or enjoy some classic board games – there will also be lucky door prizes and a competition for the best retro outfit.

Community and Cultural Development Committee Chair Colleen Doyle said Retro Games Night is a fantastic way to spend a night out.

“Retro Games Night is definitely going to be lots of fun – its kid free and guests will be able to enjoy some of their favourite games, a licensed bar, and food,” Cr Doyle said.

“There is a competition for the best retro outfit, so everyone should be prepared to raid the closet, wear their neon colours and big hair.

“It’s free entry and there are lucky door prizes too, this is a fantastic way to celebrate our libraries turning 80.”

Local Councillor Russ Cook said it’s great to have free events like this in the suburbs.

“This is such a fun way to draw locals to our libraries and the location makes it really convenient for residents to attend,” Cr Cook said.

“Guests can enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and explore everything the library has on offer – they can even join on the night and hire books or DVD’s while there.

“I’d really encourage everyone to bring some friends and enjoy the nostalgia.”

Pinball and arcade machines will remain at Thuringowa Library all weekend for free family fun.
