Riverway to come alive with IndiaFest

Townsville’s popular IndiaFest is bringing Indian culture to Riverway on October 27.

Townsville City Council has provided $16,000 in support to the festival – which is expected to attract around 20,000 people.

Local Councillor Verena Coombe said it’s great to see Riverway being used for major cultural events.

“Townsville locals love food and festivals. IndiaFest will bring amazing food, Bollywood performances, and fireworks to Riverway,” Cr Coombe said.

“Riverway is such an amazing venue – it can host a large number of people and it’s conveniently located for families living in the area.

“It’s great that Council can support major events because they help boost businesses and create jobs for locals.

Community and Cultural Development Committee Chair Colleen Doyle said it’s fantastic to have events that celebrate the multicultural nature Townsville community.

“Townsville is such a diverse city and it’s wonderful to have that on show at festivals like this,” Cr Doyle said.

“Hosting cultural these major events help attract visitors to Townsville and showcase what we have to offer.

“We are the events capital of Northern Australia, and hosting these events really demonstrates why.”
